Isolation Diary: Here I am watching short segments of the RNC, can’t take much more, and no one to talk to about it. So I turned it off. Left some comments elsewhere on FB. But what I did see, is some people speaking seemingly sincerely about what great things Trump has done. Not knowing these people I can’t dispute that they have been positively affected by Trump but their focus is narrow. It’s a hallway. They do not open the doors to the rooms along this hallway. Climate change is in one. People needing health insurance are in another. Small business dying because of Covid and the postoffice slowdown in another. The destruction of our democratic protocols is in another. Money is at the end of the hallway. I am sure you can fill the other rooms with issues and conditions that Trump has discarded.

Perfect analogy Ruth. I am too thin-skinned to watch any if it. Someone sent me the clip of Kimberly G. She appeared to be a walking example of just how much cocaine can be inhaled without dying!

Why watch?

I want to understand the attraction of Trump. What I have gathered so far is that positive and superlative declarations, whether truthful or not, are seductive and reassuring. The message does not need to conform to reality but it needs to be presented with, for the women, a big smile, and for the men, with concerned sincerity, possibly edging over into the ‘heartfelt’. Also the message is that Trump will take care of everything and you nice people don’t need to worry or do any thinking, please don’t think, what’s the point, Donald has the whole thing well in hand and he works tirelessly at his current (and possibly extended) job. And if Donald does not get re-elected, the devil Biden will destroy all your dreams. Destroy everything.
